I am happy to report that with the exception of some tweaks to our overall growing area, there will be a good amount of flowers coming in from the fields at Concession Road Garden in 2025. While reflecting on the 2024 season, including the setbacks and challenges, I’ve realized that growing flowers has become an intrinsic part of my life, and like Claude Monet, “I must have flowers, always, and always.” I was also reminded of a CRG guiding principle: by creating spaces where cut flowers thrive, we’re also creating habitat, necessary for preserving and protecting native flora and fauna. But perhaps the most desired shift for me, for the coming years, is to continue to build on and further develop the design aspect of our flowers. Creating custom bouquets and arrangements for special events and individuals is probably the most rewarding aspect of this flower gig. The activity feeds the artist in me, and provides a much needed reprieve from the weeds and muck. Whether you visit the flower studio at the farm, stop by our booth at Locke Street Farmers’ Market, or attend one of our on-farm events, we are looking forward to sharing our flowers with you all in 2025 and beyond. Should you be looking for gift ideas for the flower lover on your list, or want to treat yourself to a weekly pickup of in-season locally grown flowers, the Seasonal Hand-tied Bouquet Subscriptions are available for purchase on the website. We’ve also just added a Spring Blooms Subscription option: Four bouquets, composed of seven specialty tulips, arranged with daffodils, anemones, flowering branches and pussy willow, starting in April for pickup at Concession Road Garden. Wishing you all the best of the holiday season! Svava and Mark

The days are getting shorter and we are getting ever closer to that first frost of the year. We are starting to put the gardens to bed for the winter and are finalizing our plans for next year. The tulip bulb shipment will be arriving this week and bulbs will be planted in the weeks ahead. We are scaling down our growing operation and moving things around to, hopefully, make the work of farming less strenuous! This week marks the final days of going to market for Concession Road Garden. The last day for us at Westdale Village Farmers' Market on Tuesday 8, Oct. (4-7pm) and then at Locke Street Farmers' Market on Saturday 12 Oct. (9am-12pm). For both markets this week, we'll be bringing seasonal bouquets and pumpkin arrangements for fall and thanksgiving, as well as the last of the Quince. There may still be some flowers in the weeks ahead, depending on when that killing frost occurs! So if you're in need of a bouquet or arrangement - do get in touch! If we don't see you in the coming week, please know that we are so very grateful for all your support in 2024! And before too long, you'll find us sowing seeds, pulling tulips, and preparing for the markets in spring 2025. |
